Engineering: A Self-Inflicted Nightmare

What we're witnessing here is a perfect application of dazzle camouflage, a legitimate military technique from WWI. Naval vessels were painted with disruptive geometric patterns not to hide them, but to make their speed, distance, and heading nearly impossible to calculate through a periscope. The zigzag pattern on the outfit creates the same effect—making torpedo targeting calculations frustratingly inaccurate. Fashion meets naval warfare engineering. German U-boat commanders would be furiously adjusting their slide rules right now.

Expectation: Printing objects that manipulate the fabric of spacetime itself, bending reality and creating tesseracts in your living room. Reality: Some black plastic chunks that took 7 hours to print and vaguely resemble the paperweight your kid made in 3rd grade. The disappointment is strong with this one. That moment when you realize "4D printing" is just regular 3D printing but the objects can change shape over time (the 4th dimension), not a portal to manipulate the cosmos. Dreams crushed faster than a theoretical physicist's funding application.

The perfect crossover between Star Trek and electrical engineering doesn't exi-- That Fluke multimeter is set to measure ohms (Ω), which is the unit for electrical resistance. And there it is, displaying "FUTILE" instead of a number. Just like the Borg's famous catchphrase "resistance is futile," this multimeter has given up on measuring resistance altogether. Somewhere, a frustrated engineer is wondering if they've been assimilated into a collective of broken test equipment.

Nothing says "efficiency" quite like compressing 40 years of nuclear energy production into 3 seconds! The Chernobyl disaster is what happens when someone takes "let's overclock this bad boy" a bit too literally. Nuclear engineers discovered you can indeed break the laws of thermodynamics if you're willing to break absolutely everything else in the process. The look of sheer horror perfectly captures that moment of realization: "Congratulations, comrade, you've invented time travel—specifically, a way to instantly transport radioactive material across half of Europe."

Mathematicians trying to make their field sound fancy: "This is a linear function with slope 2 and y-intercept 3." Engineers who just want to get things done: "Number goes in, gets doubled, add 3, number comes out. Next problem." The elegant simplicity of calling functions "number machines" would save us approximately 4.7 hours of pretentious terminology per semester. When your differential equation is giving you grief, just do what Laplace did—slap another boundary condition on it and hope for the best!
