Scientists who use the elegant, logical SI units (meters, kilograms, seconds) are shown absolutely LOSING IT when confronted with imperial units (feet, pounds, whatever random object the British were measuring with that day). This is basically every international research collaboration ever. Americans show up with their inches and gallons while the rest of the scientific world screams internally. The rage is REAL - converting between systems has literally crashed spacecraft into planets! NASA lost a $125 million Mars orbiter because one team used metric and another used imperial. Talk about an expensive mistake!

Astronomers updating their celestial coordinate systems is the scientific equivalent of your grandparents finally getting smartphones. J2000 refers to the standard epoch astronomers have used since January 1, 2000 to pinpoint celestial objects, and after 50 years, they're finally considering an upgrade to J2050. Meanwhile, the rest of us are over here updating our software every 15 minutes. Stellar objects have moved so little that astronomers can use the same reference frame for half a century. Must be nice to work in a field where "urgent update needed" means "check back in 2050."
