So apparently discussing the Axiom of Choice gets you flirted with in the office, but mention the continuum hypothesis and suddenly you're getting reported to HR. The difference? One sounds like empowerment ("choice!") while the other sounds like you're propositioning someone with your "continuum hypothesis."
For context: both are legitimate mathematical concepts that mathematicians argue about at conferences. The Axiom of Choice basically says you can pick one element from each set in a collection, even if you have infinitely many sets. The continuum hypothesis deals with whether there's a set size between countable infinity and the real numbers. Riveting stuff at parties, terrible for workplace small talk.
The real tragedy here is that this mathematician clearly hasn't learned that you need to read the room before launching into set theory. Save it for the departmental seminar where people are contractually obligated to listen to you.
