Nice try, Einstein! This driver is desperately trying to outsmart the officer with some creative physics. When he claims his velocity was "-10 mph relative to the guy who overtook me," he's technically using the principle of relative motion correctly... just not in a way that will get him out of a ticket! 😂
In physics, relative velocity DOES matter - if you're in a train moving at 60mph and walk forward at 3mph, you're moving at 63mph relative to the ground. But the law doesn't care about your reference frame! The speed limit is measured relative to the road, not other speeding cars!
The negative velocity is just a sneaky way of saying "I was going slower than the other guy" - which is probably true, but definitely not a get-out-of-ticket-free card!
