Real-world physics is just theoretical physics with disappointment built in.

The shortest physics chapter in history! String theory - that elegant mathematical framework proposing that fundamental particles are actually tiny vibrating strings - has been the theoretical physicist's equivalent of a unicorn for decades. Despite its beautiful mathematics and elegant solutions to unifying quantum mechanics with gravity, the experimental evidence section is literally just "There is no direct experimental evidence for string theory." The quantum computing hype cycle in one perfect image! On the left: massive tomes filled with grandiose promises of how quantum computers will revolutionize everything from drug discovery to climate modeling. On the right: the same articles minus all the speculative "quantum computing could someday" fluff—suddenly reduced to a pamphlet.
