String theory enthusiasts getting threatened at gunpoint to provide experimental evidence is peak theoretical physics humor. For decades, string theory has promised to unify all fundamental forces, explain quantum gravity, and basically solve everything... except nobody can actually test it experimentally. The tiny vibrating strings it proposes exist at scales so small we'd need a particle accelerator the size of the galaxy to detect them. Yet physicists keep working on it because it's mathematically beautiful, even if it might just be an elaborate mathematical fantasy.
