Quadratic Functions Are Actually Linear

When mathematicians get misunderstood! The right side shows a Riemann sum approximation (those colorful rectangles under a curve) which is what calculus students use to compute integrals. Meanwhile, someone's calling it a "lesbian integral" and the integral is like "NOT WHAT I'M CALLED." It's the mathematical equivalent of someone confidently mispronouncing a technical term in front of an expert. For the record, this is just a regular definite integral—the fundamental building block of calculus that measures the area under a curve. No sexual orientation required for this calculation!

Poor John Venn, forever in Euler's shadow! Mathematicians know the pain—Leonhard Euler was the ultimate mathematical colonizer, slapping his name on everything from constants to functions to diagrams. The comic perfectly captures that one mathematician friend who insists on "well, actually"-ing every conversation with unnecessary precision. "Those aren't Venn diagrams, they're technically Euler diagrams!" Meanwhile, John Venn sits in the mathematical afterlife thinking, "I created one thing, and I can't even have that?" The mathematical equivalent of discovering a continent and having someone else's name on all the maps.

While everyone's obsessing over desert planets and giant sandworms, math nerds are sitting in the corner whispering "D-U-N-E" and giggling uncontrollably. Why? Because those letters are a perfect mnemonic for set theory operations! Superset, Union, iNtersection, and subsEt - the fundamental building blocks of mathematical relationships. It's like finding a secret math joke hidden in a blockbuster movie. The rest of humanity gets epic sci-fi; mathematicians get an elegant reminder of how to organize their collections. Classic math nerd move - turning Hollywood's hottest franchise into a set theory flash card.

The eternal struggle between theoretical and practical mathematics, beautifully illustrated. When dividing a cake into thirds, math says each piece should be 0.333... (repeating), but multiply that by 3 and you get 0.999... not quite 1. Where's the missing 0.001? On the knife, of course! This is why mathematicians make terrible bakers—they forget that real-world division comes with a "cutting tax." Next time your calculus professor waxes poetic about limits approaching infinity, remind them they still can't cut a cake into perfect thirds.

Just your typical mathematician trying to solve geopolitical conflicts with abstract set theory! The Banach-Tarski paradox suggests you can theoretically cut a sphere into pieces and reassemble them into two identical copies. Clearly, creating duplicate Earths is the logical next step for international diplomacy! Because nothing says "peace in the Middle East" like handing duplicate planets to two countries that weren't even involved in the conflict. The perfect solution doesn't exi— wait, it mathematically does! Too bad the theorem requires non-measurable sets that can't physically exist, but hey, minor detail when world peace is at stake!

When a Japanese person and a logician look at the same symbol, they're both technically correct from their frame of reference! The symbol "⊥" appears as a "T" rotated 90 degrees. To the Japanese person, it's clearly "top" since in Japanese typography this character represents "top" or "above." Meanwhile, the logician sees the same symbol and also says "top" because in formal logic, "⊥" represents a contradiction or "top" in lattice theory. Two completely different knowledge domains arriving at the same verbal conclusion while meaning entirely different things! The universe really does have a sense of humor when it comes to cross-cultural symbols.
