This is why technical documentation is either 400 pages long or a single cryptic sticky note that says "fixed it." The phenomenon is so universal that it's practically Newton's forgotten law of motion: intelligence and articulation exist in inverse proportion when discussing anything outside of technical specifications.

After 40 years in the field, I've seen both types. The meticulous ones who triple-check everything, and the chaos agents who build rockets with duct tape and optimism. The latter are usually found in startups or final-year projects approximately 12 hours before the deadline. Remember the Mars Climate Orbiter that crashed because someone mixed up metric and imperial units? That's what happens when you let the "it only needs to work once" crowd near space hardware.

Engineering students facing their electronics exam be like: "I fear no man. But that thing... it scares me." The operational amplifier (op-amp) symbol strikes fear into the hearts of even the bravest students!
