Chemistry students everywhere know the pain of memorizing IUPAC names versus common names. "Ethane-1,2-dioic acid" sounds like something you'd need a PhD to pronounce, while "oxalic acid" is what your professor expects you to know. But "HUKKUH"? That's just the sound you make when you're choking on the ridiculousness of organic chemistry nomenclature during finals week. Nothing quite captures the essence of chemistry education like progressively losing your mind over what to call the same darn molecule three different ways.

The internal monologue of every chemist who's ever "borrowed" lab equipment! Never mind that carbon is literally everywhere—in your pencil, your soda, that diamond ring you can't afford on a researcher's salary. To an orgo chemist, spotting carbon is like finding free food in the department lounge—suddenly everything else ceases to exist. The rest of us just roll our eyes while they frantically draw hexagons on every available surface.

Sørensen really said "I'm gonna create one of the most fundamental measurements in chemistry and then refuse to elaborate on what the 'p' stands for." Classic power move. Scientists in 1909 were like "So what does the 'p' mean?" and he just shrugged and walked away. Now we're all stuck debating whether it's "potential," "power," or just "please stop asking me questions." The man literally invented a unit that measures how acidic your kombucha is and then left everyone on read. Scientific ghosting at its finest.

In chemistry, acids have a pH below 7 (proton donors) causing chaotic reactions, while bases have a pH above 7 (proton acceptors) and are much more stable.
