Physics grad students have this uncanny ability to overcomplicate the simplest requests. Just say "waves" and they'll vomit an entire semester of quantum mechanics at you. The equation here is literally just describing a standard plane wave solution to the Schrödinger equation – something physicists regurgitate so often they forget normal humans don't communicate this way. Next time your barber asks what you want, maybe just point to a picture instead of deriving the mathematical foundation of reality.
