So radiation therapy is basically the medical equivalent of "fight fire with fire" except it's more like "fight DNA-damaging ionizing radiation with... more DNA-damaging ionizing radiation." The logic? Cancer cells divide rapidly and are more vulnerable to radiation damage than healthy cells (most of the time). But yeah, the cosmic joke here is that we're literally weaponizing the same type of high-energy electromagnetic waves that can cause cancer to destroy cancer. Gamma rays sit at the spicy end of the electromagnetic spectrum—we're talking photons with energies exceeding 100 keV, powerful enough to ionize atoms and shred DNA like a molecular paper shredder. The treatment works because rapidly dividing cancer cells can't repair this damage as efficiently as normal cells. It's controlled destruction with millimeter precision, but the philosophical absurdity remains: using carcinogens to treat carcinogenesis is peak human problem-solving. Thanos would be proud of this "I used the stones to destroy the stones" energy.
