The unfinished integral equation sits there, menacingly incomplete, like a horror movie cliffhanger. That equals sign hanging in mathematical purgatory is the calculus equivalent of a slasher film victim saying "I'll be right back." Every math student knows the cold sweat that comes when you've set up a substitution (u = ln(x)) but then hit a mental wall before reaching the solution. The brain just... stops... working.
