It's the perfect example of nomenclature gone wild - like someone accidentally substituted a tyrosine amino acid where there should be glutamate! The chemical difference between Y and E is just one methyl group away from brand disaster. Whoever did this clearly understood the principle of chemical substitution, just applied it to the wrong laboratory!
