Smell is the sense most strongly linked to memory formation—those neural pathways formed during childhood remain remarkably intact. That's why a random whiff of fresh-cut grass or grandma's cookies can instantly transport you back to 2003 while you're standing in the cereal aisle questioning your life choices.
