Forgotten-scientists Memes

Stephen Hawking and popular science get all the glory when it comes to black holes, while poor James Hartle is just vibing in the shallow end. But Nikolai Bogoliubov? That guy's been forgotten so hard he's literally a skeleton at the bottom of the pool. Here's the thing: Hawking radiation made black holes sexy for the masses, but Hartle was right there with Hawking developing the no-boundary proposal and doing serious quantum gravity work. Meanwhile, Bogoliubov pioneered quantum field theory in curved spacetime and developed the mathematical framework that basically made Hawking radiation possible in the first place. His transformation methods are fundamental to understanding particle creation in expanding universes and near event horizons. But does anyone talk about Bogoliubov coefficients at parties? Nope. It's always "Hawking this" and "event horizon that." The man literally laid the groundwork for quantum field theory in non-inertial frames and gets zero meme recognition. RIP to a real one.
