Fun stellar fact: Sirius is actually a binary star system with Sirius A (the bright one we see) and its companion white dwarf Sirius B. Ancient Egyptians used Sirius's appearance to predict the annual flooding of the Nile. Talk about a star with some serious responsibilities!
