Wikipedia editors really nailed scientific communication with their preference for vague "characteristic odor" descriptions. Meanwhile, the rest of us are desperately seeking the blue button that actually tells us what hydrogen sulfide smells like. Nothing says "I'm a serious scientist" like avoiding phrases like "smells like rotten eggs" in favor of academic jargon that helps absolutely no one.
