When molecular biologists name genes, they sometimes create unintentional comedy gold. Here we have the fucK gene from E. coli that encodes L-fuculokinase—an enzyme that phosphorylates L-fuculose. The gene naming system wasn't thinking about English profanity when creating this shorthand!
