You know that feeling when someone casually mentions "engineering" in conversation and everyone just nods along like they totally understand the difference between mechanical, electrical, civil, and chemical engineering? Yeah, we're all frauds. Most people have a vague idea that engineering involves math, building stuff, and probably some blueprints, but if you asked us to explain what a structural engineer actually does versus a systems engineer, we'd be sweating bullets. The beauty of this is that engineering has become such a catch-all term that it's basically untouchable. Nobody wants to be the person who admits they don't know what "thermal dynamics optimization" means in a meeting. So we all just smile, nod, and trust that the engineers know what they're doing when they say the bridge won't collapse. Spoiler alert: it usually doesn't, so their mystique remains intact!
