Meanwhile, beta hydrogens (the chad bearded guys) just chill next to that carbon, unbothered by bases stealing their protons. And that chlorine? Total chad energy, hogging electrons while the alpha hydrogens have existential meltdowns. This is the molecular social ladder we never knew we needed. For the uninitiated: Alpha hydrogens sit next to carbonyl groups, making them acidic and easily removed in reactions.
