But clearly Frank was having a rough day when he simplified it to "A×B×C" where A=aliens, B=better be, C=catgirls. Honestly, can't blame the man. After decades of pointing radio telescopes at empty space, you start hoping for something more interesting than just another hydrogen signature. The scientific method never specified what kind of aliens we're looking for, so why not optimize for the ones that would make interstellar diplomacy more... intriguing?
